Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communication Team, has posed a question to President John Dramani Mahama, seeking to understand how, in just three months of his administration, he has managed to pay workers if he insists that the NPP left behind a mismanaged economy.

In an interview with Accra-based Peace FM on March 7, 2025, Ellen Ama Daaku criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for its repeated accusations against the previous administration, claiming it mismanaged the economy.

She said, “From the minute we made him president, he has spoken at length — from his swearing-in to the Independence Day celebrations. He has certainly said a lot. But, dear President Mahama, enough with the long speeches; it’s time to get to work. The time is up for you to fulfil the promises you made to Ghanaians.

“You have labelled the NPP’s governance as a criminally mismanaged economy, we’ve heard you. But I challenge you, as someone who claims not to be a part of that mismanagement, to effectively manage the economy now.”

According to her, since the NDC assumed power, they have consistently placed blame on the past government, particularly emphasising the lack of funds in the system.

She firmly stated that the Akufo-Addo administration did not mismanage the economy, as alleged by the current government.

Additionally, Ama Daaku questioned how, despite these claims, the president has managed to pay workers in January and February.

“I refuse to accept that the economy was mismanaged. If it were, how is it possible that an economy you describe as such enabled you to pay workers in January and February? Where did that money come from? Isn’t it the same funds left by Akufo-Addo’s administration that you are now using to pay workers? Stop making excuses and start taking action. The people of Ghana need results,” she said in the interview monitored by GhanaWeb.
