Lawrence Adjah Tetteh‘s time at Hearts of Oak was marked by unforgettable moments, particularly during the intense battles against their arch-rivals, Asante Kotoko.
One memory from the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup final still stands out for the former Hearts of Oak midfielder. Tetteh played an instrumental role, scoring the equalizer as the Phobians defeated Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium to clinch the maiden edition of the Confederation Cup title.
In an interview with Happy FM, Tetteh recalled an unexpected and dramatic reaction from an Asante Kotoko fan that highlighted the fierce nature of one of Ghana’s biggest rivalries.
“I’ve played many games for Hearts against Kotoko and in Africa. One that stays with me is the 2004 Confederation Cup. After that game, someone joked, ‘I wish I could shoot you just so you don’t play against Kotoko again!’” Tetteh shared.
Although the comment was made in jest, it speaks volumes about the intensity of the Hearts-Kotoko rivalry, where emotions run high and every match is a source of pride.
The two clubs will face each other once again on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium as they aim to improve their season’s performance.
