A man has died after collapsing at a techno festival while six other revellers have been rushed to hospital, with one in a critical condition.

The 40-year-old man suffered a medical episode at global music festival Dreamstate in Sydney Olympic Park, western Sydney, on Saturday night.

The incident triggered an emergency response as panicked attendees looked on.

Paramedics worked desperately to revive the man, but he died at the scene at around 11.30pm. 

He has not yet been formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

NSW Police have set up a crime scene. 

The Dreamstate music festival is advertised online as being a trance and techno destination.

The man was one of seven people treated by paramedics at the festival at Sydney’s Olympic Park on Saturday

The event goes for two days, with the first night being held in Sydney and and the second in Melbourne on Sunday.

On Sunday, about 45,000 people are expected to flock to Centennial Park for the Laneway Festival.
