Former Ghanaian footballer Anthony Baffoe has called for various stadiums used by clubs in Ghana to be fully equipped to prevent disastrous incidents during matches.

He noted that his visit to some stadiums in the country made him aware of the fact that most stadia lack dressing rooms, which is a worrying concern.

The former Stuttgart player called on football authorities to ensure that all safety protocols are being complied with by clubs at their stadiums, including decent parking areas and safe entry access to avert disasters.

“Sometimes when we enter the Accra Sports Stadium, we see thousands of cars parked in front of the VIP area. So, in the event of an evacuation, it’s going to be catastrophic. But in Ghana, we always say, ‘until something really happens.’ So, these things really need to change. Every pitch should have a dressing room.

“You go to certain pitches where we play, and there’s no dressing room, no washroom. These things have to change. We need decent parking areas for easy access, properly designed access and entry gates for crowd control,” he said, as reported by JoySports.

He made the remark while commenting on the increasing rate of hooliganism in Ghana football, which contributed to the death of a staunch Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, well known as Pooley, who was stabbed to death at Nsoatre.

The deceased supporter has been buried, and the Ghana Police Service are continuing investigations into the case, with some suspects arrested for questioning.
