Former MP for South Tongu, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome Donates 5,000 Giving Sets to Combat Diarrhea and Vomit Outbreak

In a swift and compassionate response to the recent cholera outbreak in the South Tongu Constituency, former Member of Parliament, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, has stepped forward to support local health efforts with a donation of 5,000 intravenous “Giving Sets” to the South Tongu Health Directorate.

The donation, which comes at a critical time, is expected to significantly bolster emergency response and treatment capacity in the district. Giving sets are essential medical devices used for administering fluids and medications to patients intravenously, a common treatment for dehydration caused by cholera.

Presenting the items to health officials, Hon. Woyome expressed deep concern over the outbreak and reaffirmed his commitment to the well-being of his constituents. He noted that although he no longer serves in Parliament, his dedication to the development and health of South Tongu remains unwavering.

“The health and safety of our people must always come first,” he said. “This donation is my small way of ensuring that our hardworking health professionals have the tools they need to respond effectively to this crisis. We must all come together to protect lives.”

The South Tongu District Health Administrator, Mr. Hottorwodze Bismark, who received the items on behalf of the Directorate, expressed immense gratitude for the timely intervention. He noted that the donation would play a pivotal role in managing the growing number of Diarrhea and Vomit cases and preventing further fatalities.

“We are grateful to Hon. Woyome for not turning his back on the people of South Tongu. These giving sets will be immediately deployed to all the communities.”

Community leaders and health workers alike have hailed the former MP’s gesture as a shining example of responsible leadership and empathy. Hon. Paul Fiador (Assembly member for Sogakope South) and Hon. Musah Issah (Assembly member for Sogakope Central) hailed the MP always showing concern to the constituency.

The estimate amount of the items sum up to Ghs1250,000. He noted that out of the 5000 given, 1000 should be given to the Comboni Hospital and the Sogakope District Hospital each while the rest be distributed among the CHPS Compounds.

Diarrheal is an illness caused by infection of the intestine, can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. The South Tongu Health Directorate has intensified public education on hygiene, sanitation, and early reporting of symptoms as part of its containment strategy.

As the constituency battles the outbreak, the support from Hon. Woyome not only provides much-needed medical supplies but also serves as a beacon of solidarity and hope in a challenging time. His donation reinforces the belief that leadership extends beyond holding office, it lies in standing with the people when they need it most.
