Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that he held a meeting with Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu—the Nigerian national featured in a viral video claiming he intended to establish an Igbo Kingdom in Ghana following the alleged purchase of land.

According to the MP, during the meeting, Mr. Ihenetu clarified that the controversial footage was taken from an old interview dating back to 2013—a clip he now deeply regrets. He firmly denied purchasing any land for the purpose of creating an autonomous entity within Ghana and stated unequivocally that he has since abandoned such thoughts.

“Chukwudi conveyed profuse apologies to the President, Government, Chiefs, and People of Ghana for the unfortunate agitations his rather ill-advised interview has created,” Hon. Ablakwa stated in a public post following the meeting.

Reaffirming Ghana’s stance as a beacon of peace and hospitality, Hon. Ablakwa emphasized the nation’s pride in its celebrated foreign policy, which warmly welcomes Africans and people of African descent. He noted Ghana’s continued commitment to promoting its Pan-African identity, for which it enjoys global acclaim.

“However, we expect all our fellow Africans and guests to adhere to our peaceful and law-abiding traditions, and desist from conduct or pronouncements considered unlawful, divisive, and incendiary—even as they enjoy our famed hospitality,” he added.

The government is calling for calm and responsible commentary from the public, cautioning against rhetoric that could inflame tensions or lead to xenophobic outcomes. Hon. Ablakwa reminded all parties of the strong historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria, describing the relationship as one of “inseparable bond and brotherhood.”

“In the true spirit of African solidarity, let us guard our commentary so this matter does not degenerate into xenophobic consequences,” he urged.

The clarification and apology from Mr. Ihenetu, along with Hon. Ablakwa’s intervention, are seen as a significant step toward defusing tensions and reinforcing the values of unity, respect, and peace.
