Two people have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries following violent clashes during the Homowo Kpokpoi Sprinkling Ceremony at the Teshie Traditional Area on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, according to a 3news.com report.

The deceased have been identified as Eddy Blessing, 30 and Patrick Maamah Martey Fio, 27.

According to a news report, both were pronounced dead on arrival at the Lekma Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Several others remain hospitalised, with one person reported to be in critical condition.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly in a statement explained that the disturbances began in the early hours of the ceremony when rival groups disrupted the festival.

Stones were thrown, and sporadic gunfire erupted, prompting a swift police response.

Although security personnel managed to briefly restore calm, allowing Paramount Chief Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akonfra III to perform his traditional rites, renewed clashes broke out later in the day.

The confrontations reportedly involved factions loyal to different traditional leaders.

The violence triggered chaotic scenes at nearby health facilities as relatives rushed injured victims to hospitals.

Emergency units were overwhelmed, but health authorities, supported by police, managed to stabilise the situation.

MUSEC has assured residents that investigations are ongoing to track down and prosecute those responsible for the violence.

In the statement, the council expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

It also appealed to residents and traditional factions to remain calm and support security agencies in their efforts to ensure lasting peace in the community.
