A large £1.6million home has hit the market – but it features one very shocking painting.

The five-bedroom property in Walthamstow, east London, boasts a study, morning room, kitchen, utility area, pantry and five spacious bedrooms.

Its Rightmove listing describes it a ‘magnificent home’ with an ‘eclectic style that makes it truly one in a million’.

What Central Estate Agents have failed to mention, however, is that in the property’s living room, a huge portrait of the former Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin is hung up on the wall.

The first head of government in Soviet Russia, Lenin’s party’s Red Terror regime killed tens of thousands of people between 1918 and 1922.

And house hunters were, despite the estate agent’s failure to mention it, quick to spot the eyebrow-raising portrait.

Many were quick to dub the homeowners champagne socialists.

One commented: ‘Eat the rich, eh?’

‘The irony of a picture of Lenin in a £1.6 million house. Gotta love champagne socialists,’ wrote another.

While one more commented: ‘Socialists don’t believe in everyone being poor. Champagne for everyone,’ someone added.

To which one shot back: ‘It’s ironic cause under Lenin if you owned a house like this you would have been executed as a class enemy.’

Other home hunters were left bemused by the choice of artwork.

‘I am trying to understand the mix of a Lenin painting and a cushion made from the Welsh flag,’ commented one person.

Another quipped: ‘That is indeed Lenin, the guy who did a coup in Russia, and promptly put Stalin in a position of absolute power and proceeded to have a stroke and die.

‘Stalin then went off to kill millions, including 2-3 million by starvation in Ukraine.’

Called Linden House, the Victorian villa hit the market two weeks ago but is yet to sell.

Its listing reads: ‘Nestled on the prestigious Beulah Road in the heart of Walthamstow village is a truly exceptional six-bedroom Victorian villa that seamlessly blends period charm with modern elegance.

‘Spanning just under 2,000 square feet, this magnificent home is a showcase of exquisite craftsmanship, original features, and a strikingly eclectic style that makes it truly one in a million.

‘As you step inside, you’re immediately welcomed by a grand reception room bathed in natural light, where high ceilings, intricate original covings, and a beautifully restored fireplace create an air of timeless sophistication.

‘The warmth of the solid hardwood parquet flooring ties the space together, making it the perfect setting for both relaxation and entertaining.

‘Beyond the interiors, the magic of Linden House continues in its breathtaking 70ft rear garden.

‘Enclosed by original 1900s brick walls and thoughtfully curated with handpicked plants, shrubs, and trees, this outdoor haven offers a rare sense of privacy and serenity.’
