She has played a femme fatale in a host of roles over the years, delighting in the fun of the ‘sexy’ female villain persona.
However, Scots actress Michelle Gomez has ditched her trademark glamour for her latest role – a fearsome wild boar.
Glasgow-born Ms Gomez, who has starred in shows including Doctor Who and the sitcom Green Wing, will voice the part of Captain Hoggbottom in Disney’s latest animated movie Zootopia 2.
Ms Gomez, who shot to fame in Channel 4 comedy series The Book Group in 2002, will star alongside Hollywood big hitters such as Michael J Fox, Jason Bateman and hip-wiggling singer Shakira.
Gone are the pencil skirts, high heels and red lipstick that have frequently featured in her previous roles.
Instead, Hoggbottom is said to be a no-nonsense police officer, who just happens to be a wild boar. The role also sees Gomez utilise her Scottish accent – albeit with a gruffer delivery.
Celebrating her porcine portrayal, Ms Gomez posted a photo of her new character on social media, writing: ‘I give you Hoggbottom (she is one hell of a hog)’.

While she may rub shoulders with A-list celebrities these days, Ms Gomez, 58, held all manner of jobs as she tried to break into the acting industry, including cleaning toilets in a Glasgow hotel and working as a karaoke host.
She later moved to London, married Pirates of the Caribbean actor Jack Davenport, 52, starred in a string of TV series and films and became an American citizen.
She played Doctor Who’s Queen of Evil, Madam Satan in Netflix show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and is currently voicing the character of Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter audiobook series.
She has, at times, mentioned the allure of her characters. In one interview, she said: ‘I don’t have any notion I’m the slightest bit sexy. If there’s some ass I will kick it. Maybe I’m filling a niche market for sexy, angry women.’
Discussing her role in TV show Sabrina, she said: ‘Playing Satan’s wife is an interesting one. It feels great and powerful and empowering and fun and manipulative and sexy.’
In August, Ms Gomez faced a backlash for her involvement in the Harry Potter franchise, following creator JK Rowling’s outspoken stance on trans rights.
The criticism led her to issue a statement insisting she ‘supports trans rights without hesitation’.
