    The Director of Communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed deep disappointment over Ghana’s failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

    Speaking about Ghana’s exit from the 2025 AFCON during an interview with JoySports, Asante Twum acknowledged that the failure will weigh heavily on the Football Association, as it will forever remain a blemish in the country’s football history.

    “It’s not been easy, especially when history will not forgive you. In 2004, when we didn’t qualify for the AFCON, it has always been a reference point. Anytime I meet some of the ex-Black Stars players, they hate to discuss that particular subject.

    “And 20 years later, we’ve failed to qualify again, and this happened during the time we’re at the helm of affairs. History will not forgive us. It will always hang around our necks, which is the most difficult thing to endure during this period,” he said.

    Asante Twum further acknowledged that while Ghana has been in a challenging phase over the past few years, the nation’s rich football heritage offers some positives.

    He also appreciated the role of the media in critiquing the GFA during its moments of failure.

    “There are still positives to pick up. At the end of the day, we have to move on. We’re a powerful football nation, but there are a lot of difficulties around this time.

    “You have to sift through and take the positives. I listen to the radio a lot, and I pick up some of the things you [the media] talk about. Some or most of them are critically truthful. I take everything in good faith because the best way to grow is to be open, accept, and embrace views and opinions,” he added.
