    The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that the United States Air Force will play a key advisory role in the ongoing investigation into the tragic Z9 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on August 6, 2025.

    In a statement issued on Monday, August 25, 2025, the minister, who also serves as Minister of Finance, announced the formal commencement of the Investigation Board’s work, outlining its composition and the critical support it will receive from international partners.

    The Investigation Board, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, includes representatives from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana).

    Dr Ato Forson emphasised the involvement of the US Air Force, stating, “The United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.”

    30-day deadline set for investigation board probing helicopter crash

    The board is also empowered to engage additional local and international experts and institutions as needed to ensure a thorough inquiry.

    Further details from the statement indicate that a preliminary investigative team, formed on the day of the crash, will submit its findings to the board today. This team was tasked with gathering all available evidence to support the board’s work.

    Dr Ato Forson noted that the Investigation Board has been given a 30-day mandate to complete its inquiry and deliver a comprehensive report on the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
