    The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has officially confirmed that its officers conducted a lawful operation at the residence of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as part of an international investigation into criminal financial activity.

    In a press release issued, EOCO disclosed that the operation, carried out by its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), followed a request from the FBI and the United States Justice Department.

    According to their release, the target of the operation was a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, believed to be tied to the proceeds of a criminal enterprise linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a convicted fraudster serving an 86-month sentence in the U.S.

    The luxury vehicle, found at Shatta Wale’s Trasacco Valley Phase 1 residence in Accra, was seized by EOCO as part of efforts to retrieve assets valued at over $4.7 million in restitution owed by Nana Amuah.

    According to EOCO, the operation was conducted professionally and without incident. However, they confirmed that their officers were armed during the search, which is actually a standard safety protocol for SARU operations, especially those involving high-value assets.

    This clarification appears to respond to a social media post by Shatta Wale earlier that day, in which he criticized the use of guns during the operation:

    “Raymond Archer EOCO BOSS ,Ibe you go make NDC go out of power next 4yrs. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for !!!”

    The release further revealed that Shatta Wale pleaded with EOCO officers to keep the seizure private, expressing concern about how it might damage his public image. He was, however, allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is now in EOCO’s possession.

    EOCO stated that the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department are expected to submit a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request for the vehicle to be returned to the U.S. as part of the restitution process.
