Some sports personalities who participated in the 2024 parliamentary elections did not achieve impactful results after suffering defeats in their constituencies.

The four sports personalities who took part in the elections and lost are Pius Enam Hadzide, Frederick Acheampong, Evans Bobbie Opoku, and Ignatius Baffour Awuah.

This GhanaWeb Sports feature details the sports personalities who lost in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

    Pius Enam Hadzide

Former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, lost his parliamentary seat in the Asuogyaman constituency in the Eastern Region.

Hadzide, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 21,290 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, garnered 26,085 votes to secure victory.

The NPP parliamentary candidate came under vehement criticism during the campaign period after promising to travel with some constituents to the 2026 World Cup in the United States if Ghana qualifies.

The backlash he received on social media platforms possibly affected his chances of winning the elections.

    Evans Bobbie Opoku

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobbie Opoku, also suffered a huge defeat in the Asunafo North constituency in the Ahafo Region in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate garnered 25,101 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Haruna Mohammed, accumulated an impressive 43,082 votes to win the elections.

    Ignatius Baffour Awuah

The owner of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, lost his parliamentary seat in the Sunyani West constituency in the Bono Region during the 2024 elections.

Per reports, Awuah, who has been in office for four years on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was unable to retain the seat despite his efforts.

The Nsoatreman owner is yet to comment after the defeat and make his next move known.

    Frederick Acheampong

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member, Frederick Acheampong, also known as Fred Achee, failed in his bid to win the Ahafo Ano South parliamentary seat during the 2024 elections.

According to reports, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashanti Gold FC lost to his opponent from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Fred Achee is reported to have conceded defeat and thanked his supporters for their support.
