Former Accra Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku has shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, cautioning Hearts of Oak fans against expecting the dominance displayed in past encounters.

The two clubs will face off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3 pm. Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated fixture on GSP1, Mireku reflected on how the rivalry has evolved into a much more balanced contest in recent years.

“Hearts of Oak and Kotoko games are unpredictable. It’s not like during my time, when you could confidently claim we would beat Kotoko, as we did in the famous 4-0 victory,” he remarked.

During Mireku’s playing days, Hearts of Oak often enjoyed periods of superiority over their archrivals, approaching matches with unwavering confidence. However, he acknowledged that those days are behind them, though he remains hopeful.

“It’s going to be a tough match. Kotoko may be higher up the table, but that doesn’t guarantee victory. I believe Hearts of Oak still have a chance,” he added.

Both clubs are under pressure to perform. Hearts of Oak currently sit 6th on the league table, eight points behind the leaders, Goldstars, as they aim to mount a late title charge.

Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, are 4th on the table, just three points off the top, keeping their title hopes alive as the Super Clash approaches.
