Hearts of Oak will return to the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, for their outstanding Ghana Premier League clash against Nations FC, the Ghana Football Association announced on Monday.

This follows recent comments by National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who described the stadium as a “crime scene” and insisted it would not be available for domestic use while renovation works continued.

The venue was recently used for Ghana’s 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with parts of the stands cordoned off. It remains unclear what discussions took place behind the scenes leading to the GFA’s announcement of Hearts of Oak’s return.

Hearts had been unable to use the stadium since September 2024 when it was closed for immediate upgrades to meet international standards. They have since been playing their home games at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Phobians return to their favourite home ground for the first time since their 1-0 defeat to the newly promoted Basake Holy Stars in the season opener.

Coach Abubakar Ouattara’s men, currently fourth with 37 points from 23 games, trail leaders Asante Kotoko by five points and will look to close the gap in their title chase. Their return to the Accra Sports Stadium offers a chance to capitalize on home advantage against a formidable Nations FC side.
