Accra Hearts of Oak have been crowned champions of the second edition of the Democracy Cup after beating city rivals Great Olympics.

The Phobians secured the Democracy Cup trophy on their second attempt following their 1-0 win over the Dade Boys at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday, September 5, 2025.

After a goalless game in the first 45 minutes, Hearts of Oak finally got the breakthrough in the 70th minute and fought very hard to protect their only goal in the game.

Kofi Asmah scored the only goal in the game after a brilliant solo run from winger Kwame Karikari on the right flank to set up the goal for his teammate who was introduced in the second half.

Hearts of Oak have made amends for their defeat to major rivals Asante Kotoko in the maiden edition of the Democracy Cup in 2024.

The Phobians lost 2-1 to the Porcupine Warriors despite creating numerous goal scoring opportunities.

Peter Amidu Acquah in the first edition of the Democracy Cup scored the winner around the 60th minute to secure the victory for Kotoko after Asamoah Boateng had cancelled Justice Blay’s first half goal.
