The Ministry of Health has appealed to the Ghana Health Service to show leniency toward Ms. Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse who was issued a query letter over alleged unprofessional comments about the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the Minister commended the Ghana Health Service for swiftly upholding professionalism and enforcing its Code of Conduct.
However, Mr. Akandoh urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in handling the case, noting that both he and the government welcome diverse opinions and constructive criticism as part of efforts to encourage tolerance and open dialogue in the health sector.
He also called on health workers to express their views in a respectful manner, without resorting to insults, adding that responsible communication helps strengthen the sector’s growth and unity.
The Ministry further stated that it has no objection to lawful demonstrations, describing them as a constitutional right and a legitimate way for citizens to express concerns.
It, however, cautioned that such actions must not involve abusive language or acts of indiscipline.
The statement reminded all health professionals to be careful about their public statements and social media activities to maintain the integrity of the profession.
