Asamoah Gyan celebrates with Kwesi Appiah after scoring a goal Asamoah Gyan celebrates with Kwesi Appiah after scoring a goal

Former striker of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah has lavished praises on former Black Stars teammate, Asamoah Gyan, labelling him as Ghana’s undisputed star for many glorious years.

Appiah played alongside Gyan in his first tournament for the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, when Ghana won silver.

In an interview with Flashscore, the Boreham Wood striker disclosed how he honored Gyan even before getting to play alongside him and acknowledging the impact he had on the team.

“Gyan was always someone I admired from afar and I followed his career, as he was the star of our national team for many years. So, to eventually play alongside him and partner him up front was a moment I will cherish forever. He’s a true legend and a great human being,” he revealed.

Since Gyan’s retirement in 2019, the Black Stars have been struggling to fill the void he left, and Appiah, having shared a dressing room with the legend, believes Gyan’s talent makes it tough to replace him.

He, however, hoped the Black Sars eventually get a player of Gyan’s quality.

“It’s a very tough task to replace someone of his calibre and quality. That type of striker and character is not produced that often.”

“At this moment in time, you have a player like Kudus and potentially Semenyo who are playing really good for their clubs so we’d hope they can eventually have that type of level and consistency for Ghana to help lead the team to glory as Asamoah Gyan so often did,” he further stated.

At 34, Appiah plays for Boreham Wood in the England National League and has already scored 23 goals in 15 National League games this season.
