Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has joined the Catholic community in Ghana and worldwide to mourn the passing of the late Pope Francis.
In a statement he shared on social media, Dr Bawumia expressed profound grief over the demise of Pope Francis.
He described the Catholic Pope as one who championed peace, humility, and inclusiveness.
“It is with deep grief that I learned of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. The late Pope was a man of unwavering peace and compassion. He lived a life of inclusiveness and humility, which was admired by many around the world,” the statement said in part.
The former vice president shared fond memories of his personal encounter with Pope Francis during a visit to the Vatican a year ago.
He recounted how touched he was by the gentle spirit and clear moral compass of the late Pope.
“He left such a remarkable impression on me as one whose true essence and outlook on life was to live pure and right,” Dr Bawumia added.
The former vice president, who termed his death as a huge loss, has joined the Catholic community and the world to mourn the late Pope Francis.
“I join the Catholic community in Ghana and worldwide to mourn this huge loss. Please accept my most sincere condolences,” Dr Bawumia said.
Pope Francis died on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 88.
