The response by Nigerian football legend Jay Jay Okocha to Jamie Carragher’s demeaning comments about the African Cup of Nations has excited social media users, who believe that Okocha has put Carragher in his place.

In a video circulating widely on social media, Okocha talked down Jamie Carragher, downplaying his significance in the football debate.

Okocha, in a sarcastic tone, posited that certain ex-footballers ought not to be treated with seriousness when they pass certain statements about football because they lack the pedigree of greats of the game.

Okocha then went for the jugular, jabbing Carragher with the viewpoint that no parent would want their footballer son to be like the Liverpool legend.

“There are some players that will say something, and you just overlook them. If you look at their careers and the type of football that they played, you can understand. You wouldn’t want your son to be like [Jamie] Carragher,” Okocha said.

Okocha’s comments have excited African football lovers who believe that he has perfectly summed up Jamie Carragher’s career.

They are excited that one of Africa’s greatest footballers has spoken about the issue and ensured that Carragher feels the anger of the continent.
