Founder and president of the Centre for International Trade and Education Ghana (CITEG), Alex Kwaku Tetteh, has revealed why he has withdrawn his support for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

According to the former staunch supporter of Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP had promised to protect him regardless of any controversy that may arise as he campaigned for his bid.

However, Tetteh claims Agyapong abandoned him over a personal opinion he expressed, leaving him vulnerable.

He recounted that he had petitioned the police to arrest a party member, an action which reportedly displeased Agyapong.

“Kennedy questioned me on why I took such action against a party member. If I have done something and you disown me, why should I follow you anymore?” he said in an interview on Neat FM shared on social media.

Tetteh expressed concerns for his safety, saying he could no longer support Kennedy Agyapong because he feared for his life.

“You have 22 children and you’re protecting them. I also have a family, so I can’t risk my life. He promised me protection and failed. I can’t support him because he could sit back and watch people kill me if I get into trouble,” Tetteh lamented.

Once one of the strongest allies, Tetteh has now withdrawn his backing as Kennedy Agyapong eyes another attempt at the NPP presidential primaries following his defeat to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
