The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reflected on his appointment to lead Ghana’s education sector, describing the role as both challenging and significant.

In an interview on Channel One TV, monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday, December 25, 2025, he said his appointment followed extensive consultations by President John Dramani Mahama.

“I’m sure President Mahama thoroughly engaged and consulted before the decision to assign me to the Ministry of Education, probably to help him reset Ghana’s education sector,” he noted.

Haruna Iddrisu also acknowledged the enormous challenges facing Ghana’s education system, from kindergarten and basic education through primary, junior high, secondary, and tertiary levels.

“There are significant challenges and problems that need to be dealt with head-on, and I’m sure he trusted my judgement in that respect,” he added.

Reflecting on his achievements over the past year, the minister expressed confidence in his contributions to the sector.

“I have not disappointed him in the last one year, and I shall not. We will review and reform Ghana’s education system generally in order to produce competencies that can stand the test of the 21st century,” he said.

He further highlighted the ministry’s focus on equipping Ghanaians with 21st-century skills, stressing the importance of not only knowledge acquisition but also critical thinking and analytical abilities to enable citizens to contribute meaningfully at both national and global levels.
