From Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to international stages, Gyakie, now basking in a successful music career, has stated why she waited five years after her breakthrough before releasing her debut album.
According to her, she waited because she wanted to first learn and understand the music business.

In an interview with ‘The Guardian; in Nigeria, the songstress explained that she wanted to take her time to grow as an artiste and a person before putting out a full body of work.
According to her, the journey over the past five years has been filled with lessons about the music business that shaped the project she has now delivered.
“I believe I have grown so much over the years. Perhaps, if I did an album four years ago, by now there might be things I wish I did differently. Over the years, I started learning so much about the music business, and I paid close attention to music production, songwriting, stage performances and so on.

“We started working on the album in 2022, and I am glad I could input all I learned into the music. It’s really showing in the work, and it has really influenced everything, from the sound, to the songwriting, the production, and even the creative visuals,” Gyakie shared.
According to her, the project, “After Midnight,” has been in the works since 2022. Gyakie disclosed that she took a hands-on approach to the album, not only as a singer but also as part of the creative team shaping the sound.
She said she even co-produced some of the songs, after developing an interest in how music is made.
“I was deliberately learning things. I was getting too curious and intrigued to know why everything sounded the way they did. So, I realised I could do it too, so I went for it. I’m also planning to learn an instrument soon,” she explained.
