After spending three years recording, Ghana’s ‘songbird’ Gyakie, has finally released her much-anticipated album titled ‘After Midnight’, a project that has since become the centre of discussions within the creative space.

One standout track from the 17-track album, ‘Y2K Luv’, has particularly caught the attention of music lovers, as Gyakie opened the song with instrumentals sampled from her father Nana Acheampong’s classic hit ‘Nanka Ebeye Den’.

The song began with 10 seconds of her father’s original instrumental, after which Gyakie seamlessly blended it with an old-school hip-hop vibe.

The track, which featured rapper Omar Sterling, explored the theme of availability and commitment in a relationship.

‘I recorded most of the songs after midnight’ – Gyakie speaks about new album

In ‘Y2K Luv’ Gyakie reflected on finally finding true love. Omar Sterling complemented the song with his signature lyrical flow and creativity, contributing to what has become one of the most talked-about tracks on the album.

Prior to the album’s release, Gyakie spoke with the Grammy Awards in an interview where she shared the inspiration behind ‘Y2K Luv’

She revealed that while she has made hip-hop tracks in the past, none compares to ‘Y2K Luv’ in terms of sound, style, and personal significance.

“I’ve made hip-hop songs before, but I hadn’t released anything with that particular sound till now. Over the years, I’ve grown and matured in regards to how I create and write music, and how I approach production. I’ve learned so much, and I’m glad I’ve been able to put that growth into this work,” she said.
