The Public Relations Officer for Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL), Stanley Martey, has attributed the water crisis in Tema to congestion, especially in Communities 14 and 15, making it difficult to lay pipelines.
According to him, some pipelines are old and need replacement, while construction in the area complicates pipeline installation, sometimes requiring installation under buildings, which is not feasible.
“Tema Communities 14 and 15 are very congested, so laying pipelines is very difficult. Sometimes you have to go under buildings, so there are serious challenges in that area,” he noted.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Martey called for decongestion to ensure smooth laying of pipelines.
He also dismissed claims that residents have had no water for two years, stating that water flows at specific times, and residents should store water during these periods.
He urged residents to sympathise with GWL as they work to restore water supply.
The water shortage in areas such as Tema, Labone, Spintex, and many other parts of Accra has significantly disrupted daily lives, with residents relying on costly water tankers and sachet water for daily domestic activities.
Residents have therefore called on the government to hear their plea and restore water in their homes.
