The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) is urging merchants to lower their pricing in reaction to the cedi’s recent appreciation.

GUTA made a strong but succinct call to the trading community to adjust their prices to reflect the currency advances. According to the statement, “we would like to urge the trading community to modify the prices of goods and services.”

GUTA claims that the cedi has gained “significantly” in value relative to major trading currencies. The group claims that this should provide some respite for regular Ghanaians.

Quick action is what the union needs from traders. It thinks the current currency stability should benefit consumers. The organization called for “some relief to the consuming public.”

GUTA says this is not just an economic concern, but a moral one too. It is asking its members to show fairness now that the cedi is doing better.

Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA, signed off the statement, keeping the message short and direct. But its tone was unmistakable—this is not a suggestion; it is a strong appeal for action.
