The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Gushegu, Yussif Malimali has called for investigations into allegations of over voting in the just ended Parliamentary Elections in the constituency.

According to him, happenings in the constituency before, during and after the elections influenced the outcome of the elections, which he noted did not reflect the will of the people of the Gushegu constituency.

He said, “We owe it to our supporters, the Chiefs, elders and people of this constituency and also to the integrity of the system to pursue a full investigation into these matters before accepting the final result.”

The Parliamentary Candidate claimed among other things that over-voting was recorded in about 30 polling stations in areas considered as strongholds of the NPP.

Mr Yussif also accused some CODEO Election Observers of dictating to voters to vote for the NPP, allegations that GhanaWeb has not been able to independently verify.

The NDC Candidate in a statement issued on Wednesday also accused the NPP of intimidating voters in supposed NDC strongholds, acts he claimed influenced the outcome of the elections.

“Following the myriads of electoral infractions recorded in this constituency, there are serious questions that need to be addressed regarding the specific concerns of; over–voting in about 30 polling stations within NPP strongholds, NPP sympathizers masquerading as CODEO officers in their bid to dictate to the electorates who were already in queues to vote for the NPP, intimidation of electorates in supposed NDC strongholds, a situation that laid credence to the alleged threats by the NPP that they have the capacity to unleash violence in the constituency as and when they deem it needful.” he accused.

According to the EC’s certified results, Mr Yussif Malimali polled 29,225, losing to the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Hassan Tampuli of the NPP who polled 30,490 votes.
