Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Prof. Kobby Mensah Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Prof. Kobby Mensah

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Prof Kobby Mensah, has expressed disappointment over the state of the company under the previous administration, describing it as a case of poor leadership and lack of innovation.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, July 12, Prof Mensah disclosed that the GTDC fleet had drastically reduced from eleven vehicles to just one by the time he assumed office.

“You have to always think about innovating processes to make the place better. You don’t leave it worse. How would you have a place of 11 cars reduced to 1.1 car? I mean, that’s shameful,” he said.

Although he was reluctant to dwell on the past, Prof Mensah emphasised the importance of innovation in public leadership and expressed concern over the trend of younger leaders falling short of expectations.

“When you are actually handling state institutions, you have to ensure that you are bettering the lot of the place, not leaving it worse; and that’s what happened,” he stated.

He added, “I sometimes get shocked to see young people behaving as though… because we think that young people are supposed to be vibrant, supposed to have the energy, supposed to do the most innovative stuff, but unfortunately, it’s the reverse.”

Prof Mensah hinted that there will be a time of accountability for past actions, stating, “At a point of reckoning, people will answer.”
