Great Ampong Claims 80% of Ghanaian Pastors Have Disappointed God

Ghanaian musician Great Ampong has criticised the conduct of some pastors in the country, claiming that about 80 per cent of Ghanaian religious leaders have disappointed God through their behaviour and approach to ministry.

According to the gospel musician, some pastors have become indifferent to the struggles of ordinary people, showing little concern for the challenges confronting members of their congregations and the wider public.

In his assessment, the attitude of some religious leaders raises questions about whether they still understand the responsibility that comes with their calling.

“Ghanaian pastors are nonchalant and uncaring. So far as the doom is not befalling them, they have no interest in other people’s predicaments,” Ampong said.

He questioned whether the perceived lack of concern was a reflection of Ghanaian culture or the personal attitudes of individual pastors, arguing that spiritual leaders should demonstrate compassion and concern for people beyond their immediate interests.

The musician also expressed concern about what he believes is the declining influence of the church on the lives of some Christians.

According to him, the church appears to be losing its ability to influence people’s behaviour and encourage them to make decisions consistent with Christian teachings.

Ampong observed that some adults would rather spend their Sundays at betting centres or engage in activities he considers immoral than attend church services.

“Adults would rather waste their Sundays in betting rooms and other settings committing vices than be in church. We have lost the anointing and essence of ministry. Money making is more than winning souls,” he said.

His comments suggest that he believes some churches have shifted their priorities away from spiritual growth and the salvation of souls towards financial gain.

For Ampong, the situation raises concerns about whether some religious institutions are still fulfilling the purpose for which they were established.

Beyond church attendance and the conduct of pastors, the gospel musician also questioned the credibility of certain practices within contemporary Christian ministry.

He expressed concern about pastors who make prophecies or present certain events as miracles, only for the incidents to later be described as staged arrangements.

According to him, such practices risk damaging the reputation of the church and weakening public confidence in religious leaders.

Ampong’s concerns reflect a broader debate about accountability in religious leadership, particularly the need for transparency in claims involving prophecies, miracles and other spiritual experiences.

He believes that when religious leaders are perceived to be misleading their followers, the consequences extend beyond individual churches and can affect the public’s perception of Christianity as a whole.

Despite his strong criticism of some pastors, Ampong maintained that restoring public confidence in Christianity should not be the sole responsibility of religious leaders.

He argued that church members also have a role to play in ensuring that the teachings they receive are consistent with the Bible.
