    GRA’s Royal Ladies win gold at African Club Championship

    The GRA’s Royal Ladies Hockey team emerged victorious, winning gold at the just-ended Africa Hockey Federation Club for Club Championship in Egypt.

    The tournament, which took place from January 30 to February 7, 2025, saw the Royal Ladies showcase their remarkable skill and determination, leading to a decisive victory in the final match.

    The team’s strong collaboration and strategic execution have been applauded by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana as well as management, and staff of GRA.

    In a goodwill message to the team before this landmark victory, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, extended his heartfelt

    congratulations to the team, praising their dedication and commitment to the sport.

    “Your journey in this tournament has been nothing short of inspiring. You have elevated Ghana hockey on the continental stage, and we are incredibly proud of your formidable achievement to raise the flag of Ghana high”, he noted.

    The Acting Commissioner-General of GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, was also proud of

    the team’s achievement, stating, “We are extremely proud of the GRA Royal Ladies

    Hockey Team for their outstanding performance in Egypt. They have carried the GRA and Ghana’s flag high. As they return home, they will be honoured for their outstanding performance”.

    The coach of the team, Ida Marmon-Halm, praised the team’s preparation and resilience. “Our focus and commitment have paid off. This win reflects our unwavering spirit and the support from fans and sponsors”, she said.

    Captain of the side, Elizabeth Opoku, who was instrumental throughout the tournament, expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment. “This victory is a testament to our hard work and dedication. We are thrilled to bring the gold back to Ghana and to our supporters”, she stated.

    The GRA Royal Ladies’ victory in Egypt adds to their impressive record, including previous successes in the Africa Cup Club Championships. A rousing welcome awaits the team on their return to Ghana.
