Grand Central Station in New York City has been shut down after a fire sparked a massive emergency response.
Trains have been suspended, streets blocked and more than a hundred firefighters have descended on the huge train station on 42nd Street in Manhattan.
‘A two-alarm fire broke out at Grand Central Terminal this morning,’ the NYC Emergency Management announced on X.
‘FDNY operations are ongoing, and the incident remains active.
‘The fire and smoke has caused widespread disruptions across the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and related transit systems.’
MTA’s Long Island Rail Road X account said several branches were being diverted to Atlantic Terminal as a result.
It’s unclear what caused the fire and whether it has been extinguished. No injuries have been reported.
