Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Heart of Lions in their Ghana Premier League clash on Friday, dealing a blow to their title ambitions.
The Phobians, who started the day in third place, needed victory to keep pace with leaders Medeama S.C. but failed to break down a resilient Lions side. The result marked Hearts’ 12th draw in 26 matches this season, while Lions recorded their ninth stalemate.
Hearts began brightly and nearly took the lead when Ali Mohammed met a corner kick, only for Lions captain Ebenezer Abban to produce a crucial last-ditch clearance. Goalkeeper Nartey was also called into action midway through the first half, pulling off a fine save to deny Mawuli Wayo’s header.
Moments later, Ishmael Addo came close for Lions, narrowly missing the target from the edge of the area. The second half offered limited clear-cut chances, with Benjamin Asare making a comfortable save from Addo’s free kick early on.
The game later descended into a physical contest, with referee Robert Musey issuing six yellow cards, four of them to Hearts players.
The draw leaves Hearts of Oak on 42 points, four behind Medeama, while Heart of Lions sit ninth on 34 points, still battling to climb further up the table.
