President John Dramani Mahama has given the firm assurance that his government would tackle corruption head-on irrespective of who is found culpable.

At the Christian National Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday, President Mahama made a pledge to the clergy that he would lead a government that is transparent, accountable and focused on justice and fairness.

“We’ll strengthen the fight against corruption relentlessly, knowing that it undermines the very fabric of our society,” he stated.

“Any persons who find themselves appointed to public office has to be made aware that they would be held to the highest ethical and professional standards.”

The new administration, the President said would chart a new course to bring prosperity to the Ghanaian people.

“So all those of you plying me with your CVs must know that it is not going to be an easy job. It is not going to be business as usual.

“We’ll govern with the understanding that we are stewards of the resources and the trust that is bestowed upon us by the sovereign people of Ghana,” he said.

He assured the ‘Men of God’ that he would be President for all irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliation and urged that his assumption to the seat of government be seen as a moment for Ghana.

“I stand here today as president to all of you, regardless of your political, ethnic or religious affiliation. This is a moment for Ghana, the moment for unity, the moment to put aside differences and work together for the greater good of our dear nation,” he charged.

Unity, President Mahama said was not just a value the country must aspire but a necessity for its progress.

“We can only move forward as a nation if we stand together, shoulder to shoulder and embrace the common goal of building a prosperous and inclusive Ghana.”

According to him, the reset agenda was already underway and is anchored on restoring hope, and creating opportunities for all.

He said government would address the challenges of unemployment by investing in entrepreneurship, in vocational training and value chain development in agriculture and industry and prioritise health care and improve access to quality medical care.

In the area of education, the President said the focus would be on improving infrastructure and providing resources for teachers and expand access to technology for students.

Towards the attainment of the above, a national education review conference to dialogue on the challenges facing various levels of the educational system to forge a consensus on the way forward to achieve quality education would soon be convened, the President said.

As part of the service, prayers were said for the President and his family, and members of the government for the discernment of vision for the administration.
