The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced the government’s plan to utilize District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines for the construction of farm roads.

According to a report by Citinewsroom, Eric Opoku, while speaking to journalists on June 15, 2025, stated that the initiative aims to improve road access, facilitating the transportation of food from farms to communities.

He explained that this initiative will temporarily halt major road construction projects in rural areas while utilizing existing DRIP equipment, describing it as a pragmatic approach.

He further said fuel will be provided to districts, ensuring the effective operation of these machines.

“What we intend to do is to provide all districts with the financial resources to fuel the machines and use the available equipment to develop access roads. This will make it easier to transport food from farms to communities without any difficulty,” he said.

According to him, this strategic move will not only enhance farm-to-market roads but also reduce transportation costs and increase farmers’ incomes.

He added that the initiative will improve road networks, increase access to markets, and enable farmers to sell their produce more efficiently.

Also, reducing transportation costs will lead to higher profit margins for farmers, incentivising them to increase production.
