As part of its vision to transform Ghana’s sports landscape, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled plans to introduce a groundbreaking policy where the government will pay commissions to players in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

This pledge was announced by Dr. Fred Awaah, the party’s manifesto spokesperson on Sports, during an interview with Sporty FM.

Dr. Awaah described this initiative as a key element of the NDC’s sports development agenda.

“We are committed, as a government, to paying commissions to Ghana Premier League players. This is not free money; it’s an investment that we expect to have a ripple effect on others,” he stated.

Additionally, Dr. Awaah highlighted the party’s ambitious plan to support the country’s elite athletes through educational opportunities.

“The NDC government will offer scholarships to athletes to attend top universities worldwide, where they can be nurtured into Olympic-level competitors,” he added.

This announcement aligns with President Mahama’s campaign promise to reform Ghanaian sports through a comprehensive National Sports Policy.

If implemented, these policies could represent a significant step toward revitalizing sports in the country.
