President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to transform selected schools across the country into specialised sports development institutions.

John Dramani Mahama made this declaration when he met the Ghana Football Association and the Black Queens on July 30, 2025.

He stressed the need to develop young talents by integrating structured sports programs into schools.

“We are also going to equip some of the schools around the country to enable them train young persons in sports. We will give them all the infrastructure they need.

“We will assemble the best talents from the schools so that they can train and study at the same time and build their talents to join the senior team,” he said.

The initiative is expected to create a clear pathway for young athletes to balance academic pursuits with elite sports training.

The Black Queens secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, marking Ghana’s first podium finish since 2016.
