The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced that the government plans to construct 2,000 housing units for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to address the long‑standing accommodation deficit within the military.

According to him, 700 of the units will be built in Accra, with the remaining facilities distributed across other garrisons to improve living conditions for personnel and enhance operational readiness.

Lieutenant General Agyapong, in a video shared by the Channel One TV X on December 14, 2025, explained that the initiative is part of a broader plan to modernise the Armed Forces and strengthen national security infrastructure.

He further disclosed that the government is actively retooling the security services, with procurement processes underway for new long‑haul jets and patrol boats.

“These assets will significantly boost the military’s capacity to respond to emerging threats both on land and at sea,” he noted.

The CDS added that improving welfare and upgrading equipment remain key priorities as the Armed Forces continue to adapt to evolving security challenges.
