The government has firmly denied allegations that it is promoting LGBTQ content within Ghana’s education system, describing such claims as exaggerated and misleading.

The rebuttal follows accusations by the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that the government had covertly introduced controversial sexual rights and gender identity content into the country’s school curricula. Rev. Fordjour has since demanded the immediate recall of all LGBTQ-related teaching and learning materials from schools.

Addressing the issue at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Kwakye Ofosu, dismissed the claims as unfounded. While acknowledging his personal relationship with the lawmaker, Ofosu criticised what he described as Rev. Fordjour’s “overzealous charlatanism.”

According to Ofosu, the controversy stemmed from a definition contained in the Year 2 Physical Education and Health (Elective) Teacher Manual, a supplementary guide developed in 2024 to support teachers implementing the new Senior High School curriculum.

He explained that concerns about Comprehensive Sexuality Education were not new and had already been addressed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). Similar issues, he said, arose when the curriculum was first introduced, leading to swift corrective action after public backlash.

Ofosu revealed that NaCCA had withdrawn about 700 copies of the teacher instruction manual due to a single problematic reference related to gender description. He added that the revised and approved version no longer contains the offending content.

He stressed that government policy does not support the promotion of values that conflict with Ghanaian cultural norms and assured the public that the matter had been resolved.
