The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the suspension of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118) to allow for further stakeholder engagement.

In a press release dated February 7, 2025, the Ministry explained that the decision was necessary due to concerns raised by key stakeholders.

“The government has decided to suspend the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act to allow for further stakeholder engagement,” the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, stated.

He recalled that Parliament passed the Act in July 2024 with the aim of streamlining road infrastructure management by merging three existing institutions—the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads—into a single body.

“The decision to suspend the implementation of the NRA Act is as a result of the government’s commitment to addressing major concerns raised by some key stakeholders,” the statement added.

The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to enhancing coordination and efficiency in the road sector while addressing all concerns before proceeding with the Act’s implementation.
