The 2025 African Basketball Festival was officially launched on November 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana basketball court, marking the fifth edition of the event.

The 5th anniversary celebration will take place from December 10–14, 2025. The competition involves five teams competing for a GH¢2,000 cash prize and assorted items from sponsors.

Participating countries for the main festival are Ghana, China, Liberia, the USA, and Nigeria.

This year’s edition will feature five countries battling for the ABF Trophy, five fashion brands showcasing at the 2025 ABF Fashion Show and Cultural Night, and five electrifying musical performances from the top five contestants of the ABF Music Rising Star competition, which will light up the main stage.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, promised his support, saying: “Basketball teaches lots of communication, energy, counter, and more. We are here to support the event.”

The Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, added: “I commend RITE Sports Services for giving young players a platform to exhibit their talents.

The fusion of fashion and music performances into sports is good. The president and NSA have integrated tourism into sports activities for promotion. GTA is throwing full support behind the basketball festival.”

The head of RITE Sports Services, Yaw Sakyi, noted that each category of the event will be awarded GH¢5,000 as the cash prize.

He further disclosed that the 2026 edition will be hosted in a different African country to promote the sport.

“As part of the packages, we have customized rings to signify the milestone we have achieved. In the ABF Music Rising Star, we already have selected contestants, and five will compete for GH¢5,000. In basketball, there is also GH¢5,000 to be won. So everything is five-five.”

“Next year we will announce the next African country to host it. We have five countries bidding, and one will be selected. We believe that if Nigeria and others come to Ghana and participate, it will be fair for us to travel there for the competition,” he said.
