The Ministry of Interior has announced an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

The investigation follows revelations by the OSP’s Director of Research, Communications, and Strategy, Sammy Darko, on a JoyNews programme on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

On the show, Darko shared details of how personnel at the office frequently face life-threatening situations in the course of their work.

He claimed that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has allegedly survived two attempts on his life and he (Darko), has also faced similar dangers when he was beaten by policemen who outnumbered him.

He also noted that the OSP’s investigations often involve powerful individuals, making the work inherently dangerous.

“The Special Prosecutor has survived two assassination attempts. Myself, I have been dragged out of my official vehicle and beaten by 17 policemen,” Sammy Darko said, while stressing that the risks confronting the office are far more serious than the public may realise.

“People need to understand the gravity of what we are doing. This is not an office that works behind a desk; we face real threats every day in the course of our duties,” he added.

In response, the Interior ministry in a statement dated Monday, December 8, 2025, indicated that the investigation will be a full scale one into both allegations.

“… Since crime does not expire, the Ministry has ordered a full-scale investigation into the claim of assassination attempts. The Ministry has also ordered an investigation into the claim by Mr Samuel Appiah Darko that he was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel. The Ministry will update the public on the outcome of these investigations and the actions to be taken,” it stated.

The ministry also emphasised that these allegations could have serious security implications, warning that they might hinder the government’s efforts to combat corruption.

“… Beyond the security implications of these claims, such dangers to personnel of accountability institutions, if true, can undermine the government’s efforts to combat corruption, which have intensified since it took office,” the statement added.
