The contractor working on the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway has received GH¢809 million, as calls for the road’s completion intensify.

The Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Agyei, confirmed that the payment was made on August 4, 2025.

The high-stakes agreement everyone in Jomoro is talking about

There have been persistent calls for work to resume on the site after the stalling of the project left commuters and road users in discomfort.

Contractors have now returned to the site to resume repair works on the major highway, bringing relief to commuters who had endured weeks of heavy gridlock.

Speaking at a media engagement on August 18, Agyei noted that the government had fully met its financial obligations towards the project.

“On July 24, we made part payment; on July 30, another tranche; and on August 4, the final payment. Altogether, we have honoured the request in full, amounting to about GH¢809 million,” he was quoted by citinewsroom.com.

The Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Sedem Afenyo, described the payment as progressive and expressed hope that it would lead to the completion of the road.

“Some weeks back, we met with the engineer and the three MCEs affected by this road and were assured that action would be taken. I want to believe the payments have now been made, and with the assurances I’ve received, I hope we do not see the work stalled again,” he told citinewsroom.com.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) had earlier given the government a one-week ultimatum, threatening to suspend operations if the contractor did not return to site.

The ultimatum is set to expire on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
