Yaw Sarpong’s death was confirmed by his manager

Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong, has reportedly passed away.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the musician’s passing was confirmed by artiste manager Nana Poku Ashis on January 20, 2026. Further details as to the cause of death are yet to be revealed.

Yaw Sarpong has been battling ill-health for years now, leaving him away from public view.

The musician has been in music for nearly 5 decades, releasing his first album “Adesrede” in 1981. He went on to compose various hit songs, including ‘Awurade Kasa,’ ‘Tie Obiaa,’ and ‘Wo Haw Ne Hwan.’

In 2025, Yaw Sarpong was honoured at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to music.

His death comes a month after the sad passing of his longtime colleague and close friend, Maame Tiwaa, whose death shocked the gospel industry.
