Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Charles Taylor has urged young players to prioritise the revenue they generate from football over building a good reputation.

According to him, he once followed the adage of pursuing a good name by playing for top clubs while neglecting the financial aspect, which he believes has negatively affected his finances.

Based on his experience, the former Asante Kotoko forward advised young footballers to prioritise money before any other factor when making career moves.

“I always advise the young boys to seek money first. We used to chase a good reputation, but we realised it won’t take you anywhere. All that matters is the money.”

“So now, money is better than a good name. If you want to chase good name in life, people will insult you later on,” he said in Twi during an interview with Sporty FM.

Charles Taylor cited an example where his low-profile vehicle once led to him being denied access to a stadium, while a younger player in a luxury car was allowed entry to the Accra Sports Stadium.

“How can I get to a sports stadium and you allow Afena Gyan to park his car but deny me? Just imagine. If I were driving a Range Rover or a better car, would I have been treated this way?” he questioned.
