The Ghana national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, are in Albena, Bulgaria, for the prestigious 46th World Armwrestling Championship and 27th Para-Armwrestling Championship, scheduled for September 10–23, 2025.

They will compete alongside about 1,300 armwrestlers from over 92 countries in this highly anticipated global event.

Ghana’s Golden Arms will be represented by some of its finest competitors; Daniel Acquah and Mabel Yeboah, both African champions from the Ghana Prisons Service, and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, an African champion from the Ghana Immigration Service.

The enterprising Daniel Acquah, who won four gold medals and was voted overall best competitor at the last African Championship, is poised to make an impact in the Youth 60kg Men’s category in his World Championship debut.

Meanwhile, the calm and confident Mabel Yeboah, a four-time African gold medalist, is leaving no stone unturned as she aims to make history in the Youth 60kg Women’s category.

Blessed Naa Abeka Nunoo of the Immigration Service, who placed 4th at the last World Championship, is determined to reach the podium after her impressive debut. She will compete in the Girls 65kg category.

The team will, however, miss the expertise of World Champion Grace Mintah, a Police Officer, who is sidelined by injury.

Her absence will undoubtedly be felt, but the team remains determined to deliver a strong performance. They are confident of bringing home medals and making Ghana proud.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has been instrumental in securing the team’s participation in the World Championship, investing in health insurance, training support, and other resources over the past three years.

Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, CEO of NHIA, reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to supporting armwrestling and elevating the sport to elite status in Ghana.

“Our priority is ensuring a healthy nation through participation in sports, which will ultimately reduce our high insurance costs. We are proud to be associated with the success of armwrestling. We will continue supporting its development to ensure Ghana wins gold at the 2027 African Games in Egypt,” he assured the team.

Team Ghana is expected to compete on September 13 and 14, facing tough competition from the world’s best.

With their impressive performances at the 2024 African Games and the 2025 African Championships, the Golden Arms remain a force to be reckoned with.
