Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has stated that Ghana’s new gold traceability platform, GoldBod, will help the country win the trust of global gold markets by ensuring transparency and accountability in gold sourcing.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 23,2025, Buah described GoldBod as a “game-changer” in the country’s quest for ethical and responsible mining.

“GoldBod will ensure that every ounce of gold exported from Ghana can be traced to legitimate sources,” the Minister stated.

“This level of transparency is critical to building investor confidence and positioning Ghana as a responsible resource nation.”

The minister explained that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to sanitize the mining sector, with emphasis on cooperative and community-based mining supported by on-site refining capacity.

Gold certified under GoldBod will only come from vetted, legal entities, particularly mining cooperatives.

Buah added that Ghana’s new direction has already attracted positive attention from international industry leaders.

At the recent Mining in Motion conference, global players in the gold value chain reportedly expressed confidence in Ghana’s commitment to sustainable and responsible mining.

Buah stressed that traceable gold is not just about meeting international standards but also about safeguarding Ghana’s reputation.

“When our gold is certified and traceable, it earns a better place on the world stage,” he noted.

The minister further revealed that land reforms and stricter oversight of foreign participation in small-scale mining are underway to complement GoldBod’s objectives and help sanitize the industry.
