The Ghana Olympic Committee’s (GOC) Amasaman OlympAfrica Project is progressing steadily, with significant milestones achieved since its inception.

The project, aimed at establishing a Centre for Juvenile Sports Excellence or Community Stadium, has been making steady progress despite some initial delays.

The first phase of the project, which consists of the construction of a basketball/volleyball court, a tennis court, and a standard football field with running tracks, is nearing completion. As of January 2025, a total of $79,161 has been spent on the first phase.

The GOC received an initial grant of $100,000 from OlympAfrica, and the committee is required to raise 30% of this amount, approximately $30,000, to supplement the funding.

The Amasaman OlympAfrica Project is designed to be a hub for discovering and nurturing young sports talents, providing them with the necessary facilities and training to grow into elite athletes.

The project features an in-house football academy, which currently has over 50 boys under the guidance of the legendary Mohamed Polo.

In a recent address, the President of the GOC, Ben Nunoo Mensah, emphasized the importance of the project and the committee’s commitment to its successful completion. “One of my targets for the year is to complete the country’s Olympic Complex at Amasaman,” he stated.

With the project’s progress on track, the GOC is confident that the Amasaman OlympAfrica Project will become a reality, providing a world-class sports facility for Ghana’s youth and serving as a launchpad for the next generation of elite athletes.
