Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that while the Goaso Astroturf was constructed at a cost of GH¢4,240,337, the Mim Astroturf was fully sponsored and built by a private entity, without any government funding.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Adams provided the breakdown after questions were raised about the government’s resource commitment to the two facilities.

“Examination of data available in the Ministry of Sports and recreation indicates that the Goaso Astroturf was constructed by the government of Ghana at a cost of GH¢4,240,337. However, the Mim Astroturf was sponsored and constructed by a private entity of which the government of Ghana had no resource commitment in terms of funding,” he said.

His comments come months after the official commissioning of the Goaso Astroturf on 30th December 2024.

The ceremony marked the completion of the modern facility expected to boost football and other sports in the Asunafo North Municipality and the wider Ahafo Region.

The facility was officially handed over to the National Sports Authority (NSA) in the Ahafo Region, with Festus Boffah assuring the community of proper maintenance to ensure its long-term use for youth development, local teams, schools, and professional sporting events.

When pressed further about the Mim AstroTurf, which also serves the Asunafo North area, Kofi Adams clarified that the project was not under his ministry’s purview.

“The Mim AstroTurf in the Asunafo North is not owned by the ministry. I will therefore request the honourable member of parliament for Asunafo North to redirect the question to the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for the needed responses,” he added.
