Cape Coast – The Executive Director of the Ghana Libyan-Arab Holdings Company Limited (GLAHCO), Mr. Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, has announced plans to develop a major shopping mall and hotel in Cape Coast to boost retail trade, create jobs, and improve tourism retention.

Speaking at the 3rd Environmental and Lifelong Conference (EELL ’25) in Toronto, Canada, on October 16, 2025, Adams stated the proposed mall aims to become a retail hub for the Central Region, potentially surpassing similar facilities in Takoradi and Kumasi.

“The establishment of a shopping mall in Cape Coast is central to our strategy for boosting retail and creating significant employment,” Adams said on the sidelines of the conference, which was themed “Balancing Prosperity and Heritage: Indigenous Lands, Big Corporations, and Sustainable Futures”.

He framed the vision as complementary to the development efforts of Cape Coast’s Members of Parliament and the broader regional agenda of H.E. John Dramani Mahama. Adams also highlighted that a policy of “price localisation” would be integrated to support businesses within Cape Coast and the surrounding region.

Addressing the city’s tourism infrastructure, the Executive Director noted that, apart from a few established hotels, most accommodations fail to meet the standards of high-class tourists.

“This accounts for the city’s low tourist retention, with many visitors returning to Accra after day trips,” Adams stated. “Building a mall alongside a quality hotel will not only address this but also create vital jobs for the youth.”

On his appointment as Executive Director, Adams expressed gratitude to God and President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity, pledging his full commitment to supporting the people of Cape Coast and the Central Region.
