The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has intensified calls for accountability after the attack on Class FM reporter Samuel Addo during a fire at Kasoa Market on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

At a press conference on Tuesday, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour insisted on the immediate dismissal of GNFS Public Relations Officer DO II Desmond Ackah.

He cited Ackah’s conduct in addressing the matter as proof of his unsuitability for managing Fire Service communications.

“We call for the immediate dismissal or removal of the PRO of the GNFS from the position because our interactions with him on the case show that he is unfit to be in charge of communication for the Fire Service,” he demanded.

The association further required an unreserved public apology from GNFS to Samuel Addo, Class Media Group, and the broader media community for the humiliation, distress, and professional interference stemming from the assault.

Mr Dwumfour praised government action through Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, who condemned the fire personnel’s behaviour on X and vowed decisive measures against the culprits.

He also recognised Class Media Group CEO Seidu Agongo’s firm condemnation statement. Mr Dwumfour affirmed GJA’s partnership with Class Media and the Communications Minister to secure justice for Addo.

“Any attempt to shield the perpetrators or trivialise this incident will be fiercely resisted,” Mr Dwumfour warned, declaring journalist protection and press freedom as absolute priorities.
